Welcome to Santhigiri institute of management
The Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) Congregation, founded in 1831 by St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, carries forward a rich educational legacy of more than 175 years. At a time when access to formal education was limited and largely restricted, the Congregation recognized education as the most powerful means for individual upliftment and social transformation.
One of the most visionary steps of St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara was his directive in 1864 when he was the Vicar general of Syro-Malabar Church that every church should have an adjoining school which brought education to rural and marginalized communities and significantly contributed to Kerala’s literacy movement.
The contribution of the CMI Congregation to Kerala’s educational advancement is profound. Their early initiatives in establishing parish schools, promoting inclusive education beyond caste and class barriers, and ensuring quality learning environments significantly contributed to the state’s journey toward near-complete literacy. Today, the CMI educational network extends across India and abroad, continuing its mission of forming competent professionals, responsible citizens, and ethically grounded leaders—true to the founder’s enduring vision of education as a means of enlightenment and empowerment.
